On the 1880 U. S. Census of Newport Township, Johnson Co., Iowa, Walter and Elizabeth McAdams appear. Their sons are James A.., age 12, Ellis F., age 10 and Ora C., age 2. Walter works on a farm.

On the 1910 U. S. Census of Baker Township, Crawford Co., Kansas, Walter McAdams appears with his wife Marina E., son Ellis T. and daughter Suzanne Jesse Ham and her children Paul B. and Maria E. Walter is a retired farmer living on own income and Ellis works as a coal miner. Census was done on 25 April 1910.
U. S. Pension for service in the Civil War. Walter McAdams served with H Company, 10th Iowa Infantry. He filed 31 Jan. 1879, application # 265816, Certificate # 166834. On Oct. 1, 1910 Marina E. McAdams filed as a widow. Her application was # 949909 certificate # 712063, filed in Kansas.
Notice from Pittsburg Daily Headlight, Thursday Evening, September 22, 1910: Walter McAdams Dies. G.A.R. Will Conduct His Funeral at Home Tomorrow. Another member of the fast vanishing host of the Grand Army of the Republic answered the final roll call last evening. Walter McAdams, aged 75 years, died at his home southeast of Mount Carmel hospital at 5:23 p.m. Wednesday. paralysis was the cause of death. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the family home. Rev. Sam I. Smith officiating. Interment will be made in Mount Olive cemetery. The obsequies at the house will be under the auspices of General Russell Post and all comrades are requested to be present. By order of A. M. Watson, Commander.
