Individual Details

Robert Kirkpatrick was the youngest son of James. His dates are found on his headstone in the Bullock's Creek Cemetary. His death date is given as 13 April 1803, at age of 54. This would make his birth date 1748 or 1749.

His wife was Rebecca, but we do not know her surname. Because two of her children have the middle name of Wood, it has been suggested that her maiden name was Wood. While the suggestion is a good one, it has not been investigated by us. It has also been suggested that her maiden name was Galloway, and it is a fact that several Galloways were involved in the settlement of her estate. Her headstone beside Robert's in Bullock's Creek Cemetary reads: "Died November 4, 1833, age 70-80."

Robert Kirkpatrick served in the South Carolina militia during the American Revolution. Audited Account 4334 in the South Carolina Archives, shows him being paid for "30 days as horseman in Captain Moffet's company of Colonel Bratton's regiment..." This claim was paid as recorded in Indent Book Y, No. 1240 (S.C. Archives). Robert Kirkpatrick also had another claim involving the supplying of sundries to the Continental Line and to the militia. This indent is in Book I, No. 338. The same audited account shows Kirkpatrick claiming and being paid 50 pounds for the loss of a horse while in the public service of South Carolina. The first and third of these claims bear the name Robert Kirkpatrick, the second is under the name of Robert Kilpatrick.

Reference to the will of James Kirkpatrick, the father, shows that Robert Kirkpatrick and his wife Rebecca inherited a sizable piece of land on which the father had lived. Day Jewell states that Robert amassed more land before his own death.
