PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Bernard A. Rosemeyer, 86, of Platteville, died Friday morning, Sept. 29, 2000, at home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Platteville. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville, where there will be a scripture service at 5 p.m. Friends may also call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Mr. Rosemeyer taught band and social science in Belmont and Platteville until 1945. For the next 31 years, he worked as a sales representative for Lindsay Brothers of Milwaukee, retiring in 1976. He was born on June 12, 1914, in Cuba City, son of Anthony and Sophia (Hendricks) Rosemeyer. The family moved to Platteville, where he graduated from Platteville High School in 1932, and the former Platteville State Teachers College in 1936. He married Katherine L. Bayley on June 30, 1938. They resided in Platteville. He directed his own dance band for six years in the 1930's, and later helped organize and direct the Platteville City Band for 13 years. He served as a director of the Mound City Bank for 32 years, including a vice-presidency and chairman of the board from 1981 to 1994. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Platteville, and the Platteville Knights of Columbus Council No. 1386. Surviving are his wife, Katherine, of Platteville; four children, Laurie Rosemeyer and JoAnn (Al) Romanov, both of St. Louis, and Mary Rosemeyer and James (Lorri) Rosemeyer, both of Platteville; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Emeretha Orth and Viola Ludlum, both of Platteville, Margaret Recob, of Mexico, Mo., and Helen Turk of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Alverna Kopp. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. Mary's School Endowment Fund.
