Canon City Daily Record , March 31, 2009: Dorothy Jane McKenzie 92, passed away on March 28, 2009, in Colorado Springs. She was born on Dec. 15, 1916, in Tomah, Wisconsin, to Jay and Lena (Bensell) Kirkpatrick. Dorothy married Robert McKenzie on Feb. 13, 1938. They moved to Canon City in 1972, from Los Angeles, California. Dorothy was a member of Eastern Star, and a dedicated bridge player. She was an avid reader, reading more than 300 books per year, and also loved doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Dorothy is survived by her children, John (Gina) McKenzie, Kirk (Mittsie) McKenzie, and niece, Dorothy (Richard) Olsen; one grandchild, Luke (Carrie) McKenzie; one great-grandson, J.J. McKenzie; and other numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1982; her parents; and four siblings, Ethel Sand, Babe Dakan, Betty Bingham, and Bobbie Green. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Holt Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Holt Chapel of the Garden in Canon City, with Reverend Jack Crosby officiating.
Interment will follow at Mountain Vale Memorial Park in Canon City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canon City Public Library at 516 Macon Avenue, Canon City, CO 81212. Arrangements handled through Holt Family Funeral Home.
