Emily "Emma" Coler
(26 Oct 1845 - 27 May 1923)
Obituary from The Nashua Reporter, Nashua, Iowa, May 31, 1923: A Pioneer Mother Called. Mrs. Emma Tracy Passed Away Sunday, May 27--Resided Here More Than Sixty-five Years. Emma Coler, daughter of Joseph and Olive Coler, was born in Scottsburg, N. Y. Oct. 26, 1845, and from there they moved to Dansville and then to Grand Rapids, Mich., and in 1857 they came to Nashua. She was one of the successful pioneer school teachers and a member of the Woman's Relief Corps. On May 26, 1866 she was united in marriage to Geo. W. Tracy, who was a soldier in the Civil war of 1861-65. Mr. Tracy preceded her in death Oct. 6, 1912. To this union were born eight children, two dying in infancy and the eldest son, Seth, of San Antonio, Texas died Dec. 7, 1895. Those left to mourn her death are Otto H. Tracy, San Antonio, Texas; John P. Tracy Lisbon, N. D.; Thomas F. Tracy, Chicago; Olive H. Conca, St. Anagar, Iowa; Grace C. Leaman, Excelsior, Minn; fourteen grand children and seven great grand children, also two brothers and one sister, Albert Coler and W. H. Coler and Mrs. Whitten. Those who know Mrs. Tracy will testify to the faithfulness and love she tendered her family home and friends. It was an outstanding virtue in her life to say only the kindly things. Her children vie to call her blessed. She lived for those whom God had given her, having lived for them, what comfort to have them at her bedside in the moment when she exchanged worlds. She was resigned and ready to go and repeatedly told them how happy she was to have them with her during her last illness. She is mourned by a host of friends and relatives and the children whom she loved beyond expression. They will ever have the comfort and inspiration of the precious memory of a sainted mother. At 2:45 Sunday afternoon she passed peacefully away. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the M. E. church. Rev. Shafer officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill by the side of her husband. Precious mother, she has left us for that bright and happy shore, Where the sorrow and the sighing, Will come to her no more. Her life was one of service, As she toiled from morn 'til night, Caring for the home and children, Starting them in paths aright. Precious mother, she has left us, For that happy land so blest, Where the toils and cares are over; She has earned the promised rest.
