Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Evard of Minerva were held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Phillips and Luckey Chapel. Mrs. Evard died in the early hours of Sunday in Minerva, where she had gone to be in the home of two sisters while having a check-up with her doctors several days before. Her death was unexpected.

Rev. E. J. Davis, Methodist minister of Cameron, officiated at the services, and burial was in the Minerva cemetery. Casket attendants were James Terry, Julian Terry, A. W. McCullin, Pauline Jenkins, Elliott Crook, W. C. Moody.

Mrs. Evard was born at Minerva on Nov. 21, 1886, and had resided at the home place practically all of her life. She was the former Bessie Aycock, a member of one of Milam county's old families.

On December 27, 1908, she was married to Thomas Evard. Not having been blessed with children, in 1917Mr. and Mrs. Evard adopted a baby girl, Mabel Cobb, whom they have loved and reared as their own.

During her lifetime Mrs. Evard was identified with the teaching profession, having taught for years in Milam and other counties of the state. In recent years she had retired from teaching due to health conditions. Mrs. Evard in her year younger life was a Presbyterian but following her marriage she united with the Methodist church in Minerva.

Survivors besides her husband, Thomas Evard, are her daughter, Mrs. John Lawhon of Minerva, two sisters, Mrs. W. J. Manly and Mrs. Jack Pool of Marlin; also two grandchildren.
