Gilbert Isaac Garretson, Jr. was born 6 October 1938 and died 13 January 1986. Gilbert was a reporter for an Omaha, Nebraska newspaper, and later publisher of a paper in Paradise, Butte County, California. Eventually he became editor of the San Diego Tbribune. He traveled extensively, both in the United States and abroad, and was well known in journalistic circles. He is buried in Friends Cemetery, Salem, Henry County, Iowa.
