Of Dalton Hall and of Brook House, Lymm, Cheshire. Educated at Rossall and at the Royal Agricultural Coll., Cirencester. Succeeded his uncle, Major E.G.S. Hornby, to the Dalton, Pilling and Lancaster estates and assumed by Royal Licence the additional name of HORNBY, 1923. Handicapper under Jockey Club rules, 1911-36. J.P. (Westmorland), 1927, and (Lancs.), 1930. High Sheriff of Westmorland, 1940. Died unmarried. He was succeeded in the Dalton and Pilling Estates (the Lancaster property having been sold in his lifetime) by his kinsman, Anthony Mason, Esq. (q.v.)
