Coll., Portsmouth. Served in H.M.S. Galatea, and was a Midshipman in H.M.S. Rattlesnake, 1828. Then served in H.M.S. Revenge and H.M.S. Gannet. Present at insurrection in Jamaica, 1832. Mate of H.M.S. Ranger, 1832. Kieut., 1833. Served in H.M.S. Satellite in blockade of Dutch Coast. Then served in H.M.Ships Caledonia, Canopus, and Beacon in Mediterranean, and in H.M.S. Benbow, 1838-39. 1st Lieut., H.M.S. Warspite, 1841. In command of H.M.S. Styx on African Coast, 1845. Capt., 1846. Rear-Admiral, 1865. Admiral, 1877. Commissioner of Prisons, 1877-92. J.P. (Lancs). Died without issue.
