"Educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. High Sheriff of Lancashire, 1774. Lieut. Col. of one of the Regiments of lancashire Militia, 1776. D.L. (Lancs.), 1778. Afterwards took Holy Orders, and was Rector of Winwick, Warrington, (in the gift of the Earls of Derby), 1781-1812. Purchased during the latter part of the 18th century the manor of Dalton, Burton-in-Kendal, Westmorland. (For further details of the life at Winwick and Knowsley of Rev.
