Barrister-at-Law, one-time M.P. for Blackburn. Elected M.P. for Blackburn (as one of two members), by a majority of one vote, 1 July, 1841. (The other Member for Blackburn returned to Parliament at this Election was Mr. Hornby's sister-in-law's father, William Fielden, Esq. - see Mrs. Robert Hornby - to whom a number of votes was transferred at Mr. Hornby's request). Mr. Wm. Turner, who lost the seat, petitioned for a scrutiny, and the petition was tried in London by a Committee of the House of Commons in April, 1842. Mr. Hornby's election was confirmed. He was re-elected at the Gen. Election of July, 1847, and sat until the dissolution in July, 1852, when he was defeated. Lived latterly in London.
