Jane Washington

(Abt 1740 - )

That the father of Jane was John was a tradition that was well established among the grandchildren of her daughter Elenor Hamblin. Among these that A. Porter Hamblen knew and to whom the story waas many times related were the REv. William Hamblen; and his brother David Russell Hamblen, grandfather of the writer; Elenor Taylor who remembered well the grandmother Elenor and who lived the grater part of her life in the Taylor home; and Eliakim R. Taylor her brother.

The tradition was also rife in the Lock family of Illinois - descendants of Elenor Hamblen Lock daughter of Job and Elenor. The Locks had ;long been separated from any of the other branches of the family with no correspondence for at least 40 years When correspondence was established with Allen A. Lock, a grandson of Elenor Lock, he voluntarily wrote, saying that he had always heard of a relationship to the Washington family existing.

The same tradition held that this John Washington was a brother of Gen. George Washington. However, this part has been proven quite in error for John A. Washington, borther of George was born 1/13/1736 and his daughter, Jane., born in 1758 married her cousin William Washington.
