Struck by Auto Driven by Samuel Baker, Coroner Verdict Accidental Death
Accidental death is the verdict of Deputy Coroner S.T. Tower of Seymour, in hte death of Norman Nicholson, 61, of Sparksville, who was struck by an automobile driven by Samuel Baker, also of Sparksville. The accident occurred Monday evening just after dark on the main highway through Sparksville, about three hundred yards from the school building. From all reports, Nicholson was lying in the center of the road apparently asleep. He was wearing an army overcoat which was not much in contrast with the color of the road, and Mr Baker, who was accompanied by his son Wilbur, did not see the object in the road until too late to avoid the accident, but stopped immediately. The injured man was carried to the home of his brother, Moreland Nicholson and then taken to the Schneck Memorial hospital in Seymour in the Hague ambulance of Medora. He arrived at hte hospital about 8:45 and died at 9:45. His injuries consisted of a fractured skull and several fractured ribs. It is believed that his head was struck by the front axle of the car. Funeral services were conducted at the Dixon Chapel this afternoon at 3 o'clock in charge of the Rev. C.V. Weddell of Medora. Burial in the Dixon Chapel cemetary. Mr. Nicholson was born in Carr township near Sparksville December 18, 1877, the son of F.D. and Delila Bennett Nicholson. He formerly followed the occupation of a harness maker. He is survived by two brothers, Moreland of Sparksville, and William of Castle Sharron, PA.
