Notes
Birth
This is based upon 1850 censusCensus
Using the date of the census and Catharine's age her date of birth is in 1829Death
This article reveals some interesting information and questions:1 - By 1899 the C&O Canal is in receivership probably not a lot of work
2 - O'Neals rent out a room at their house
3 - To be 70 she needed to be born in 1829
Article/Document
¶-2 Clothes burned from body, Hair burned off - that's 3rd degree burns -no pain medication, no hospital.
¶-5 Incident occurs at 2am Kate dies at 5:30am - conscious for 3hrs 30 mins
"She died in terrible agony"
¶-3 Catherine, "Kate" is referred to as "weak minded" as a result of her sons death 11 years earlier. (The article does not say which son).
¶-5 refers to Kate as the daughter of the late Edward Hughes and survived by her HALF-BROTHER - James Hughes
For this to work, Edward was married to "someone" in or around 1828 (Kate is born in 1829) - plausible explanation -
Edwards first wife died (perhaps in child birth) and Edward is left to raise Kate
Burial
In the Daily Mail (DM) newspaper part 2 (see death record) last paragraph.St Mary's Record of Interments Book, 1899, pg 16, record # 11, shows the cemetery as "Williamsport" which was the common name of River View Cemetery.
