Individual Details
Patrick J. WALSH
(26 Jul 1878 - )
Patrick lived in Tralee, Co. Kerry where he worked as a clerk.
From newspaper accounts we know that in 1930 Patrick took legal action against his brother Jeremiah, claiming he was entitled to a share in the estate of their late father, Richard. Patrick argued that at the time of his death in 1926, Richard "possessed a house, two fields, five cows, etc. He had repeatedly asked the defendant during the last year and a half for a settlement but he would not settle... He valued the house, which was a substantial one, at £300 and the fields at £200 each". Jeremiah, who had moved into this house after his stepmother's death in 1928, said in reply that the house was worth £200 and he "valued one field at £60 and the other field at £75. The sale of personal effects after his father's death realised £93 and his father's and step-mother's funeral expenses came to £30 each, besides which he paid some debts of between £20 and £30 roughly". The judge directed that "the two parties go outside the court for a while and settle this case". Unfortunately I have not come across any mention of an outcome to the case.
