Jeremiah MULVIHILL
(1843 - 6 Aug 1910)
Jeremiah and his wife, Johanna, appear to have lived initially in Ballydonoghue, Co. Kerry before moving between 1870 and 1872 to Dirha East, Listowel, Co. Kerry. It appears they and their family were evicted in October 1881 as the Kerry Sentinel of 25 October 1881 refers to the "persecutions' they had endured that culminated in "nine or ten human beings" being "driven from their home" by the police. The family appears to have found a home elsewhere in Dirha as the two youngest children were born in the townland in 1883 and 1886, and the family was enumerated in Dirha in the 1901 census.
In 1910 Jeremiah bought or leased a 100-acre farm in neighbouring Clontubrid. He died, however - presumably unexpectedly - not long afterwards (of "suppression of urine from enlarged prostate 8 days, cerebral haemorrhage 2 days"). Although his death record tells us he died in Derry (where neither he nor any family member ever lived, apparently), it is more likely he died in Clontubrid.
