John Joseph DOODY

John studied for the priesthood in Maynooth, Co. Kildare, and was ordained there in 1925. He was serving at the church of Ss. Peter & Paul in Cork city when he was ordained, after which he was sent to the parishes of Teignmouth and Torquay in Devon where he spent a total of five years. In 1930 he was appointed chaplain at the sisters of St. Vincent de Paul in Dunmanway, Co. Cork and from 1933 to 1937 he held the position of chaplain at St. Angela's College in Cork city. He then served as a curate in Watergrasshill, Co. Cork (1937-1944), Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork (1944-1950) and the church of Ss. Peter & Paul in Cork city (1950-1961). In 1961 John was appointed parish priest in Schull, Co. Cork where he spent six years, after which he went to Kilbrittain, Co.Cork as parish priest. He ministered in Kilbrittain until his death aged 69 in 1970.
John died in the Mercy Hospital, Cork.
