Michael Joseph O'SULLIVAN

(25 Jul 1900 - 11 May 1953)

Michael was a member of Cork No. 1 Brigade of the Old IRA before emigrating to the United States. He worked initially in New York and is likely to have been the Michael O’Sullivan residing with the family of Robert Bacon in Old Westbury, Nassau, New York and employed as a butler in the 1930 U.S. Census (Robert Low Bacon was a U.S. Congressman, representing the First New York District). Michael moved to Greenwich, Connecticut prior to his marriage in 1931 to Marie Roedelbronn, whom he appears to have met in New York. He was employed as a butler in Greenwich at the time of his marriage and worked as a butler for many more years before joining the Electrolux company in Greenwich as a clerk around 1947. He later worked as a clerk for a stationery company.

From 1937 to 1955 Michael and Marie are listed in Polk’s Greenwich Directory as residing at 13 Benedict Court, Greenwich. They had no children.

According to his death record, Michael died in Greenwich Hospital aged 52 from cirrhosis of the liver brought on by loss of appetite and malnutrition resulting from a gastrectomy he had undergone in 1950.
