Dominic and his wife, Catherine, lived in Kilgarriff, Fairymount, Co. Roscommon where they ran a small farm of 30 acres, much of which was bog. Of their nine children who survived to adulthood, three (the three eldest daughters) emigrated to New Zealand, and five settled in the United States (including the remaining two daughters). Only James remained in Ireland where he ran the family farm.
