John's baptismal sponsors were William [surname illegible but appears to begin with B] and Abigail Lynch.

According to the 1861 census John was a compositor (type setter). At the time of the 1881 census John and his wife, Maria, were living at 4 Archer Street, Kensington, London and John was working as a bootmaker. They later moved to 34 and then 98 Hazellville Road, Islington, London. They had no children. After Maria's death in 1903 John moved in with his sister Abby who lived 10 Doughty St., St. Pancras, London.

John died of 'senile debility'.

Vera Connolly, a niece of Maria's, would marry Joseph's grandnephew Bob Hussey in 1921.
