Brigie was born in the family home at 12 Ullswater Road in Barnes. She attended school at a small French convent in Barnes, later transferring to the Sacred Heart Convent in Hammersmith. Her sisters, Maureen, Sheila and Una moved to Dublin in 1947 and Brigie followed a year or so later after the new family home on Roebuck Road was built. She enrolled in a hotel management course at Cathal Brugha Street College and after graduating, worked in several hotels, including the Shelbourne, the Hibernian, the International in Bray, and Wynns.
