Individual Details
Edward HUDSON
(6 Jun 1839 - 19 Mar 1911)
Edward, who never married, lived in Gortmore House (now the Bon Secours Hospital) in Tralee. He is described as a farmer in the 1901 census. He had inherited the family's land in Kilbaha (456 acres, apparently) which was rented to Hudson relatives and used to visit Kilbaha once or twice a year "to see about the bogs" (according to notes by Hudson researcher Bill Hudson). An amicable relationship apparently always existed between Edward's family and the tenants.
Edward suffered from mental infirmity in the last 10 years or so of his life and is reported to have shot and wounded two boys in Tralee who climbed over the wall into his property in Tralee in 1901. Owing to his condition his brother Robert took over the management of the Kilbaha land around this time.
Edward died of heart failure in 1911 aged 71.
