William BERTRIDGE

William, his first wife, Bridget, and their surviving children (it appears that at least two of their five children born in Ireland had died) emigrated to Canada between 1846 and 1848, living initially in Aylmer, Quebec (now in Ontario) where William worked as a gardener. At least five more children were born in Canada, where the family went by the name of Bartridge as well as Bertridge.
I have come across the followng information from the 1881 census for a Bartridge household in Carleton, Ontario (transcribed data only, actual image not available):
William Bartridge, aged 43, farmer, born Ireland, ethnic origin Scottish
Ann Bartridge, aged 45, born Ireland, ethnic origin Scottish
William Bartridge, aged 22, farm labourer, born Ontario, ethnic origin Scottish
Is this our Bartridge family? If so, the Scottish origin is interesting.
