Individual Details
Johanna (Hannah, Joan) MORRISSEY
(10 Jun 1908 - 7 Dec 1987)
We have Joan's place of birth from a newspaper obituary which tells us she was "a native of Knocknacurra, Lyreacompane or Upper Ballymacelligott."
Joan worked in Warrington, Cheshire for a time before emigrating to the United States in the late 1920s. She worked initially for Stern Brothers in New York before joining the staff of R. H. Macy & Co. where she worked for many years until her retirement. According to the 1940 U.S. census, Joan was a sales lady at a department store (this was presumably Macy's). She and her husband, Daniel, were living at the time at 25 Broadway Terrace, New York City.
Joan died at her residence in Rockaway Park. She and Daniel had lived in the Rockaways since the late 1940s.
