Mary died in Bantry where her daughter Mary and son-in-law ran a shop.
There was speculation that Prunella Scales, the actress who played Sybil Fawlty in the well-known 'Fawlty Towers' TV series from the 1970s, was connected to Mary's family. However, there is no evidence to support this, and Prunella's real name is actually Prunella llingworth but she took the maiden name of her mother, actress Catherine Scales, when she began her acting career. Mary's great-granddaughter Angela Kelly contacted Prunella some time ago but Prunella did not have any knowledge of a Chester connection, although she said she had never researched her family history.
