Individual Details
(Abt 1824 - 28 Dec 1897)
Although his family's surname was originally Dower, John went by the name of Dore. I am also told that the Dowers who emigrated to the United States tended to use the Dore surname. A possible reason for this could be that Dower may have been pronounced as Dore and it may have been easier to spell it as such. The Dowers who emigrated to New Zealand appear to have retained their surname.
