Individual Details
Maurice James WOULFE
(Abt 1630 - Abt 1700)
It appears I am one of Maurice's descendants as I have been DNA-matched by Ancestry to several other descendants of his. My great-great-grandmother was Mary Woulfe who was born in the late 1810s in Athea and was married to John Shanahan. The exact nature of the connection between Mary and Maurice is not certain but it appears she was a great-great-great-granddaughter of his.
Much of the information below comes from research carried out by Brendan Wolfe, a descendant of Maurice above. Brendan has written a book on his Wolfe/Woulfe ancestry, 'Wolfe's History' [publ. 2019], in which much additional information is available on his Wolfe family history.
Historically, the Woulfes in Ireland were among the earliest of the Norman settlers, living mainly in counties Kildare and Limerick. The Irish form of Woulfe is de Bhulbh.
