Edmond CAREW

Many of Edmond's descendants now use the Carey surname. I have no idea why they would have done this as the names sound very different. However, in Co. Tipperary - and perhaps in other Irish counties too - the names appear to be synonymous. The only record of a Carew or Carey in Soloheadbeg in the Tithe Applotment Books (1826) relates to an Edmond Carew (who leased seven acres). This is probably Edmond above.

Note that in older documents, Soloheadbeg is spelled as Solloghodbeg.
