Clare entered the convent in 1900, joining the Sisters of Charity order and becoming Sr. (later Mother) Francis Raphael. She worked at Our Lady's Hospice, Harold's Cross, Dublin - and, given her Mother title, she may have run the hospice for a time. Mother Francis Raphael is buried in the same plot as her first cousin once removed Sr. Jerome (formerly Emma) Gordon (1880-1968).
