Mary MORAN

(Abt 1839 - Prob 17 Mar 1916)

Mary is listed as Mary D. McEnery in several documents. It is likely that the D stands for Denis, her husband, to distinguish her from another Mary McEnery in the same townland, i.e., Denis's brother Michael's wife, who appears to have been known as Mary M. McEnery, with the M presumably standing for her husband.

A copy of a death certificate has been located for a Mary MacEnery of Toberatooreen (alternative spelling of Tubbertureen) who died of gastroenteritis on 7 March 1916 aged 75, the informant being her son Denis. The only Mary McEnerys of a similar age living in Tubbertureen at that time - that we know of - with a son named Denis, were Mary Moran above and Mary Hudson, wife of Mary Moran's husband's brother Michael. It is thought that this death certificate relates to Mary Moran rather than Mary Hudson, only because Mary McEnery (née Moran) had been removed from official property valuation records in 1918.
