Individual Details
George Henry Garton
(21 May 1885 - 14 April 1939)
Born May 21, 1885 in Tulare, CA. George was known as a very strong, muscular logging man, who had a wonderful (albeit crude!) sense of humor! He was the youngest of six children born to William Zachariah Garton and Margaret Elizabeth Hart-Garton (directly descended from John Hart, Signer of the Declaration of Independence). His older siblings were: John Michael Garton, Sarah, Missouri-Emaline, Andrew-Jackson, and Rebekah. George was married to Margaret May Dooley, who was born May 2, 1898, 13 years his junior. She died at the young age of 38, due to cancer, when her youngest of eight children, George Garton, was just a small boy. George Henry died just 3 years later in 1939 at the age of 54, also of cancer.
