William Zacharaiah Garton b. 2 April 1836 Decatur County, Indiana married 9 September 1870, Tulare County, California. Margaret Elizabeth Hart born 9 March 1856, Murphy’s, Calveras County, California. She died 15 December 1940 in Fresno County, California. She was the daughter of William Michael Hart and Sarah Matilda Land. 5th great granddaughter of John Hart of New Jersey, Signer of the Declaration of Independence and Deborah Scudder of Scudder’s Falls, New Jersey. Cousin to James Marshall who discovered gold in California.

Children:

1. John Michael Garton born Saturday, 11 November 1871 Monson, Tulare County, California. On Old Loggers Road off Highway 180, Fresno County, California. Died 4 March 1944 of heart failure while hiking into “Garton’s Mill” after a freek snow storm blocked the road to wheeled vehicles. They were taking feed to the animals. His son, William Smith, had to leave his father’s body lying on the side of the road to go for help. It was there William had a wonderful spiritual experience. As a Christian, William was worried that his father had not accepted Christ. He felt the urge to look up and there was the spirit of his father as a healthy younger man. He was smiling and watching him, then he shot up into the sky and disappeared. William knew his father was alright. He married Albie Ann Akers d/o John Smith Akers and Mary Ann Graham, cousin to Daniel Boone.
2. James W. born 18 February 1873; died 18 February 1873.
3. Sarah Louisa born 27 January 1875. Died 24 Ferbruary 1958, Fresno County, California age 83. Married 1st at age 18 Clarence C. Price; married 2nd Albert Franklin Crabtree; married 3rd Byrd C. Evans.
4. Missouri Emmaline born 30 January 1877’ married Benjamin Reynolds Anderson. When you went into her house you were met with cigarette smoke and country music. Very sweet lady.
5. Andrew Jackson (named after his father’s only full brother) born 17 January 1880 married Nancy Akers d/o John Smith Akers and Mary Ann Graham, cousin to Daniel Boone.
6. Rebecca Jane born 26 November 1881; died 17 May 1909 at age 27. May have died from TB. Very prevalent then. Married Archibald T. Ball.
7. Albert born 16 June 1884; died 16 June 1884.
8. George Henry born 21 May 1885; married Margaret Mae Dooley.
9. Frances May born 5 September 1887; married Henry S. Houghton, formerly of Ohio.

Vernal Mae Huddlestlon born August 20,1909 home on farm outside Kingsburg. (Both were ordained later in life). Vernal d/o John Samuel Huddleston and Myra Jennie Beaver.
2. Jesse “Jess” Jackson born Friday14 December 1900, Dunlap Fresno County, California. Married 1st (mother of children) Marian Frances Darknell. Married 2nd Charlotte. Jesse’ first born was out of wedlock and went by the name of Enoch Mulford. Died in Fresno, Calfornia. Had 4 children with wife Alice.
3. Daisy May born Wednesday, 17 May.1905 in the log cabin on Deliah Ridge, Fresno County,California. Married John Frederick Nance, cattleman. Moved to William’s Lake, 150 Mile House, British Columbia, Canada. Both died and buried there.
4. John Leonard (legally changed to Leonard John) Sunday, born 9 February 1908, Dunlap, Fresno County, California. Died 11 May 2000, Turlock, California. Most likely in the board house build by his father, Married Veda Frances Kincaid. Left 5 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Owned Garton Tractor, Turlock, California.
5. Rosa Ann born Tuesday 17 September 1912 in the log cabin built in 1898 to satisfy homestead requirements. Married Rev.Raymond B. (for Beaver) Huddleston s/o John Samuel Huddleston and Myra Jennie (born Jennie Myra) Beaver.
6. Hazel Francis born Sunday 2 January 1916 Rev Clyde Wendell Huddleston s/o John Samuel Huddleston and Myra Jennie Beaver.
