Mildred "Milly" Roundtree

(Abt 1780 - Abt 1838)

Mildred Rountree married Wiley H. Berry of Edgefield District before 1810. No 1810 census listing for them has been found. Wiley witnessed a sale of land by Richardson Rountree on March 5, 1805 (Edgefield Deed Book, 1805-06 p. 470), in a deed record of Oct. 29, 1819. Mildred signed her name as "MIlly" (Deed book 36, p. 265-66). On Sept. 13, 1820, Wiley Berry received the legacy due his wife, and also purchased from the Rountree estate female slaves named Nan and Clary. The estate of the intestate, Wiley H. Berry, entered for administration on June 5, 1838, included slaves with those names. The residue of this estate, surprisingly, was shared solely by Mildred and Jefferson A. Berry, thus evidently the only surviving child. Yet, the 1820-1840 Edgefield census listing indicate that Wiley and Mildred had at least six sons and two daughters. Notes from Union Co.
