"Gasche, Dr. A.E. Ashland, OH Press 18 Mar 1875 On last Wedneday night, Dr. A.E. Gasche, of Wooster, and at one time a practicing physician in this place, committed suicide in his room at the American House, Loudonville. Dr. Gasche has for some time been addicted to intoxication, and a few weeks ago, when last in this place, made himself particularly disagreeable. He represented himself to be traveling for Wm. S. Marrill & Co., Wholesale Druggists, but had been discharged some time before on account of his recklessness and intemperance. But in his traveling about with the cards of the firm, he succeeded in collecting several hundred dollars of money belonging to the house and appropriating it to his own use. He knew that officers were upon his track, and maddended with drink he repaired to his room resolved upon self-desturction. He accordingly went about it deliberately, and dressed himself for the burial.--He then lay down upon the bed and laying his head over the side that the blood might run down upon the floor he took his revolver and discharged one ball, which entered the head on the right side just above the ear, and passing through, came out above the left eye.

The report of the pistol was not heard by any person in the house and he was not found until about ten o'clock the next day. When found he was lying in the position above stated, the right hand having fallen across his breast and his finger still upon the trigger. An inquest was held and a verdict returned according to the above facts. His body was taken charge of by his relatives and taken to Wooster for interment."

Death of Dr. A.E. Gasche
The startling and sad intelligence of the death of Dr. Gasche, by his own hand, reached his father's family and friends last Thursday forenoon. It appears that he went to Loudonville on the Sunday provious and stopped at the American House. Having practiced medicine in that town a year or two ago he was
well acquainted with its citizens and always felt more or less at home there. Nothing unusual was noticed in his appearance. On Wednesday evening after eating his supper he called for matches and a candle, and went to his room. That was the last time he was seen alive. Not being an early riser no particular attention was paid to his non-appearance Thursday morning, until toward 11 o'clock, when the landlady, thinking he might be unwell, went to his room and called; but received no answer. The door was locked and all was still.
Several men were called to the room , and one was raised to the transom over the door, from where he could see the body stained with blood lying on the bed.
He climbed into the room and unlocked the door, and the terrible tragedy was revealed. Cleanly shaved, dressed in clean linen with his left hand on his breast, and the right still grasping the six-shooter of heavy caliber, he lay upon his back, cold and lifeless. He had died without a struggle. The ball entered back of the right ear, crashed through the brain, came out at the left side of the forehead, struck the wall and rebounded to the floor, where it was found.

A telegram was immediately sent here to his father, Mr. Gotlieb Gasche, and Chas. Gasche, brother of the deceased, and Mr. Leo Faber left on the noon train to bring the body home. It arrived at 9:17 P.M. and was taken to the family residence on North Beaver Street. The funeral took place Thursday at 2 o'clock P.M., attended by numerous citizens and both the English and German Lodges of the Knights of Pythias

To publish the causes which led to the commission of this rash act would be tearing afresh the wounds in hearts already bleeding. Another bright intellict, a life capable of great usefulness, has been wrecked at the early age of thrity years.

According to thank-you beside obit in Wooster paper= he was a member of Rising Star Lodge #22 Knights of Pythias
