Alta M. Short, 79, Archbold, died Monday, April 5, 1999, in her home, following a brief illness. Born Jan. 2, 1920, near Archbold, she was a daughter of Henry and Lydia (Frey) Wyse. She married Lester Short on Dec. 21, 1941, and he preceded her in death on Oct 25, 1964. A lifelong resident of Archbold, she was a homemaker, and a tour guide at Sauder Village in recent years. She did volunteer work for her church, Fairlawn Village, and at Care & Share. She was a member of Pine Grove Mennonite Church, near Stryker. Surviving are three sons, Gerald (Karen) Short, Wayne (Marilyn) Short, and J. Ward Short, all of Archbold; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Ruth Ann) Yancey, Archbold, and Mrs. Jack (Gloria) Rutt, Lititz, Pa.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers, Ora, (Ruby) Wyse, Archbold; Ervin Wyse, Dundee, Mich.; and Mahlon (Valeria) Wyse, Archbold; three sisters, Mrs. Lloyd (Carol) Neuenschwander, Berne, Ind.; Mrs. Cecil (Doris) Albrecht, Woodburn, Ind.; and Mrs. Duane (Valetta) Miller, Midland, Mich. Memorial services are tomorrow, Thursday, 4 p.m. at the Pine Grove Mennonite Church, with Bob Yates as the officiating pastor. Burial precedes the service in the Pettisville Cemetery.
