Samuel Brintnall

Capt. Samuel Brintnell was the son of Thomas and Esther Brintnell (the first settlers of what is now Mansfield), and born Dec. 2 (?), 1665. He lived at the homestead of his father, and was a very influential man in the early history of the town, much employed in public affairs as selectman and representative to the General Court. Married 1st to Margaret Carpenter; 2nd bef. 1701 Esther, who died Dec. 20 1730; 3rd Mrs. Elizabeth Blake of Wrentham. He died between Nov. 19, 1734 (will date) and Jan. 14, 1735-6 (will probated). I am told by Mrs. Lucilda Brintnell, now ninety years old, that his first wife was Margaret Carpenter. When she died we know not. He had, before 1701, a second wife, Esther. She died Dec. 20, 1730. May 23,1734, he married Mrs. Elizabeth Blake, of Wrentham. He died between Nov. 19, 1735 (date of will), and Jan. 14, 1735-6, when his will was probated. In his will, he names six children. Samuel Brintnell, Jun., was the son of Samuel, just mentioned, and was probably born about 169J), and lived near the old homestead. His first wife was Hannah . She died March 20, 1712-13. Dec. 22, 1726, he married Lydia Briggs, and had three children. His wife Lydia was appointed administratrix of his estate, Dec. 16, 1740. At a meeting for the choice of representative, May 13, 1720, ' Capt. Brintinal had 28 Eight vots, being the mcgoletry of the vots. then the Selectmen ajurned the ad. ineeating for the Space of two ours, & Sent one of the Selectmen, & another man with Him, to cap. BrintiDal's for his answer;& Cap. Brintinal's wife Told the Inbasidara her usban was Goo to Conetiout (nameley, to Ashford), & she did not Expect him home tell the next tueseday; & If he went farther, as he did Expect when he went from home, not So soon. Sd. brintinal left a note Signeyfeying sumthing: but, the selectmen not understanding what it ment, Then said ineeating was called a Gain; &, by the mcgoletry of the voters then present, Samuel Hodges was chosen, & warned In by tile Constaber); & od. Hodges Excepted.' 2 At a Meeting for the purpose of choosing a representative, May 18, Samuel Brintnell, Nicholas White, and John Newland, Sr., were sever- ally chosen representatives, but ' Refused to Serve.' Then ' they called for a vote for another ; and there was not one vote brought in for any otherperson.' So the town was uDrepresented.
