He removed to Dutchess County, New York about 1777, he was a colonel in the Revolution and was taken prisoner. He was confined in the 'OLd Sugar House' prison for many months and his letters to Governor George Clinton are preserved in Albany. After the war he was a member of the New York legislature. About 1790, he removed to Newton and bought a large tract of land on which the city of Elmira now stands. !BIRTH: IGI extraction; FHL film #002940. Clinton requesting prisioner of war exchange. !MARRIAGE: Second wife mentioned in will. !DEATH: His will was signed 30 Dec. 1824 and recorded 7 July 1825.
