Robert de Ferrers, 2nd earlof Derby, styled himself " Robertus, comes junior de Ferrariis," and "Robertus, comes junior de Notingham." He founded Merevale-abbey, co. of Warwick (see. p. 56), and lies bur.t here. He was succeeded by his son and heir,
William de Ferrers, 3rd earlof Derby, living 1167.

Robert de Ferrers, 2nd Earl of Derby was born circa 1090 at Derbyshire, England.1 He was the son of Robert de Ferrers, 1st Earl of Derby and Hawise de Vitre.1 He married Margaret Peverel, daughter of William Peverel and Alice de Lancaster, in 1135 at Nottinghamshire, England.1 He died in 1162 at Merevale, Warwickshire, England.1,2
He succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl of Derby in 1139.

Footnote [g]: By (inter alios) Mr. James Doyle in his “Official Baronage” and if any Earl (Ferrers), of Dreby, is to be credited with such a wife (and this wife has been attributed to several), this Earl is as likely to have been her husband, as any. It is, however, far more probable that his Margaret Peverl never had any existence, and that the Peverel estates came to the Ferrers family thro' the match of the 5th Earl with Afnes, sister and coheir of Randolp, Earl of Chester, grandson of Randolph, Earl of Chester, the grantee thereof.
