Walter de Burgh, 1st Earl of Ulster was the son of Richard de Burgh, Lord of Connaught and Hodiernna de Gernon.1 He married Isabel fitz John, daughter of John fitz Geoffrey, Lord of Shere and Isabel le Bigod, circa 1257. He died on 28 July 1271.
He gained the title of Lord of Connaught.1 He gained the title of 1st Earl of Ulster, jure uxoris.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.2
