In 1794, John Twiggs signed a certificate of service for John, evidently for the purpose of obtaining bounty lands. The certificate reads:
State of Georgia }
Richmond County }
I do certify that John Patterson was in the service of the United States in the State of Georgia and that he served in Captain Abner Beckham's Company under my command, then Colonel of Burke County.
