Mrs. Jacob Smith is Laid To Rest on Wednesday- Douglas County lost another of her best loved and honored old-time residents when Mrs. Jacob Smith was called from this life on Monday morning of this week. Death came as a result of a goiter from which she had been suffering for some time.Alice Dora Russell was born at Lyons, Iowa, on July 30th, 1856, and in early childhood she moved with her parents to Schuyler, Nebraska, where she grew to womanhood. It was here she met Mr. Jacob Smith and on December 24th, 1871, became his bride.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith lived in Nebraska until 1880, when they came to Douglas County, locating at Larkspur, where they have made their home since that time.
To this union nine children were born, four of whom preceded their mother in death.
By her kindly disposition and hospitable nature, Mrs. Smith endeared herself to all who came in contact with her and all sincerely mourn this loss from this life of a good friend.
There remains to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother, the husband and five children: Mrs. Mamie Wolf, of Fountain, Colorado; Levi Smith, Of Elizabeth, Colorado; Wilbur Smith, of Larkspur, Colorado; Mrs. Edna Holmes, of Palmer Lake; and Mrs. Alice Campbell, Of Larkspur. Besides these, there remain nineteen Grandchildren and eleven Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Livingston Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. J. M. Flynn officiating and speaking words of comfort to the sorrowing ones. Mrs. H. G. Hooper sang some beautifully appropriate songs. Burial was made in the Castle Rock Cemetery.
