Funeral services for William Clegg Spell, Sr., 90, of Sulphur, will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 15, 2005 from the Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home, 2051 E. Napoleon Street, Sulphur, Louisiana. Burial will be in the Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly, Louisiana, under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Spell died Tuesday, April 12, 2005 in West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital. Visitation hours will be at the funeral home on Thursday, April 14, 2005 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. and on Friday, April 15, 2005 from 8:00 A.M. until service time. Mr. Spell was born December 12, 1914 to Columbus and Ruth Spell in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was a native of Ridge, Louisiana and moved to Sulphur in the early 1930's. He was employed by the Calcasieu Parish as a Grade All Operator; he was a cattleman and rice farmer for more than 20 years. During World War II he was employed by Levingston & American Ship Yard in Orange, Texas. He retired in 1977 from the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Honea Spell, one son, Fred Colice Spell, one brother and four sisters. Survivors include, four sons, Patrick Spell and his wife Claudia of Sulphur; Jimmy Spell of Carlyss; Gary Spell and his wife Kathy of Carlyss; William C. "Billy" Spell, Jr. and his wife Annette of Carlyss; two daughters, Belinda Gail Hunt and her husband Marvin, Irma Ogea and her husband Glenn all of Carlyss; two step-sons, George Edward Honea and Robert "Terry" Honea, two step-daughters, Patricia "Pat" Toniette and Emily Sue Hermann, 33 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
