Gregoire and Marguerite were both from the family of Aucoin, but it is unlikely that they had ever met before their families sailed together from France to Louisiana aboard La Ville d'Archangel. Their parents resided in different parishes in France, and arrived at different times; Gregoire's family arriving on one of the "5 ships" that transported Acadians directly to France, and Marguerite's parents living in England for several years before finally arriving in France.
