Clyde Jesse Collins

Clyde was born in 1904 and lived in Louisana until 1921. After the death of his mother in 1908 he lived with his Grandfather Bolden Hoffpauir and then he moved to Houston, Texas where he worked at a hotel as a dishwasher. In 1924 he moved to Danbury, Texas where he worked in the hay fields and the cotton fields. In 1925 he got a job working on a pipeline that ran from Texas to Louisiana, that was the year he met Ruby Killough. Ruby was a waitress in a cafe that Clyde ate at. He married Ruby in 1928. In 1929 he got a job with the Freeport Sulfur Company but in 1932 there was a cut back and he lost his job so he moved his family back to Gueydan, Louisana where he took up farming. In 1942 Clyde got a job with The Dow Chemical Company so he moved his family back to Danbury, Texas. In 1943 he moved his family to Lake Jackson, Texas so that he would be closer to his job. In 1947 he lost his right hand in an accident and to make things worse his father passed away the very same week. He went on the retire from Dow at age 65. He and Ruby had three daughters named Vivian Ruby, Katherine Evia, and Emma Julia. Clyde was a active member of the Methodist Church as well as involved with the Boys Club. He was also a member of the Golden Leisure Club, the Actions Club, the Optimist Club, and helped with the Methodist Church Boy Scouts. (notes from Terry Morris)
