Alvin George Hoffpauir

Alvin G. Hoffpauir, 80, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a native of Indian Bayou and a longtime resident of Lake Charles. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Battle of Okinawa during World War II, and the Korean War. He was awarded the following medals: Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct, American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and World War II Victory. He received the Presidential Unit Citation, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Honorable Service Lapel Button World War II and the Combat Infantry Badge. After working in the Lafayette and Lake Charles City School Systems, he retired from Cameron Parish School Board as principal of Grand Lake High School. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Clanan Hoffpauir; sons, Karl and Don Hoffpauir; daughters, Bonnie Jones, Vicki Weldon, Donna Muth, Dena Hoffpauir and Anita Wofford; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister-in-law, Grace Hoffpauir. Alvin was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Don "Jack" Hoffpauir. A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, from Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor Ronald Groth will officiate. Donations may be made to American Cancer Society. (LCAP 9 Dec 2003)
