Joseph Trahan and his wife and children were listed as family # 52 aboard the ship La Bergère, which arrived in New Orleans on 15 August, 1785. Joseph does not appear in any of the 1770-1798 censuses along Bayou Lafourch, although many of his children do appear. He may have died soon after arriving in Louisiana.
