Luna "Lou" Fontenot Corkran went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 21, 2004, at the age of 86. She left this earthly journey for her new home, while in the care of Rest Haven Nursing Home in Lake Charles, after a battle with cancer. Luna was born March 17, 1918, in Eunice, to Eugene and Aledia Fontenot. She was one of 16 brothers and sisters. A charter member of the Lake Charles Revival Center, Luna was very instrumental in the beginning of that ministry. She was a saint and a real testimony for her Savior, a Godly wife for her husband. Luna was also an example for her children and a witness to her loved ones and friends. She was a wonderful homemaker. She was the Valedictorian of her high school class in Big Lake. She worked at Trinity Baptist Church and University Methodist Day Care Center. Her parents; husband, Elbert of 50 years; daughter, Audrey Hoffpauir; and many sisters and brothers, preceded her in death. She leaves behind her sons, Donald L. Corkran Sr. and wife Karla of Kerrville, Texas, John "Burr" Corkran and wife Sharon of Lake Charles, and Kenneth W. Corkran and wife Karyn of Sulphur; one stepdaughter, Delores Hoffpauir and son-in-law, Douglas Hoffpauir; seven grandchildren, Donald Corkran Jr., Wanda Corkran Plaisance, Alyce Corkran, Shawn Corkran, Sasha Corkran Kelley, Jason Corkran and Amanda Corkran Young; two stepgrandchildren, Sean and Melissa Teaters; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Eula Ellis; and three brothers, Clarance, Huey and Clifton "Tonk" Fontenot. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, in Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Howard Holton will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation is 1-10 p.m. today, and from 8 a.m. Wednesday. (LCAP 23 March 2004)
