CROWLEY - Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 8 at 2 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Ruth Morgan Avant, 84, who died Thursday, May 5, 2005 at her residence in Crowley. Brother Truman Stagg will officiate for the services. Burial will be in the Indian Bayou Cemetery. Visiting hours will be observed Sunday from 8 a.m. until service time. Survivors include her husband, Nathan T. Avant of Maxie; two daughters, Dawn Turner and husband Bill of Franklin and Majorie Rigney and husband Paul of Knoxville, Tenn.; three step-daughters, Marsha Corbell and husband Robert of Rye, Colo., Audrey Dunbar and husband Samuel of Church Point and Annette Avant and husband Vennie Mercadante of Homer, Ala.; four step-sons, Thomas Avant and wife Romona of DeRidder, Torphy Avant and Barbara of Toledo Bend, Texas, John T. Avant and wife Judy of Hathaway and James Hugh Avant and wife Sherry of Carlsbad, N.M.; three sisters, Violet Duncan of Kemah, Texas, Irmalee Campbell of Houma and Wilda Van Drone of Payson, Ariz.; four brothers, Merlen Morgan of Tylertown, Miss., Richard Morgan, Sunset, Kenneth Morgan of Scott and Butch Morgan of Kemah; three grand children and five great grandchildren on the Morgan side; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Solomon and Annie Hoffpauir Morgan; her first husband Guy H. Creighton and two brothers, O.B. Morgan and Wymen Morgan. She was a long time resident of Maxie and life long member of the Methodist Church. Mrs. Avant was born on May 5, 1921. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care at 522 N. Main St. Jennings, La 70546. Arrangements have been entrusted to Duhon Funeral Home.
