Burial
Obituary: Lois Hoffpauir Koonce, 86, was called to her eternal rest on Monday, April 4, 2011, in her daughter's residence. A native of Ebenezer, Louisiana, she resided in Sulphur for the last 61 years. Lois had a love for her family which was exceeded only by her love for God which was evident in her everyday life. She felt closest to God in her garden and if you knew her, you would have known she spent a lot of time there. Those left behind include her son, Daniel W. Koonce of Little Rock, Arkansas; her three daughters, Elaine Koonce Dawson and husband, Billy, of Westlake, Beth Koonce Evely and husband, Rich, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Beverly J. Koonce of Sulphur; one brother, L.A. Hoffpauir of Sweetlake; three grandchildren, Amanda Dawson, Mariah Evely, and Thomas Evely; 18 nieces and nephews; and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews who all loved her very much. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Norman Lester Koonce; her parents, Dan and Mabel Hoffpauir; sisters Helen Joiner and Dorothy F. Hoffpauir; and a brother, Daniel V. Hoffpauir. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in Houston River Baptist Church. The Revs. Lonnie Gothrup and Richard Beckham will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday in the funeral home, and from 1 p.m. until the time of service Thursday in the church. The family would like to thank her two caregivers, Patty Mehringer and Cathy Davis, who loved her as their own mother, and also to the staff of Christus Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Gospel Publishing Mission, P.O. Box 1065, Hobe Sound, Florida 33475.Endnotes
