Rachel
(1603 - 1632)
While Rachel certainly could have been born circa 1603, it seems unlikely that she was born in Accomack County. While there are reports of expeditions landing in Accomack County in 1603, there are no reports of colonies. These early expeditions by British were more military/exploration, by most accounts, and I would guess they likely did NOT include women. I am no scholarly historian, but I could not find any reference to settlements in Acomack County, or elsewhere in Virginia, before Jamestown in 1607. There were Spanish settlements in Florida, and perhaps Georgia, and maybe French in Charlestown, SC prior to 1600, but no reports of settlements in Virginia that I could find.
